FAQs
Do you have a question?
Is the Check-In Contactless?
Yes. Here is our process:
1. When you come in, we will be taking your temperature (forehead) and we will have your check-in paperwork on a clipboard on the counter for you.
2. Hand sanitizer is available on that same counter for you.
3. Once you’ve completed the paperwork, you’ll leave it on the counter. I’ll review it separately and discuss the treatment plan with you in your designated treatment room.
What are your Hygiene Protocols?
TEMPERATURE TAKEN UPON ARRIVAL: We will be taking your temperature (on your forehead) to make sure you do not have a temperature. You must be less than 100 degrees. We will also take our temperature at that time, for your peace of mind.
IN BETWEEN EACH CLIENT CLEANINGS: We spray and clean all surfaces used during the treatment (including credit card/square terminal, all door knobs, light fixtures, the chair the client’s clothes were on, the table the client was laying on, the staff’s work area, the top of Missy’s Kennel) with VitalOxide, which is a commercial disinfectant.
After the surfaces are sprayed with VitalOxide, then we clean all surfaces again with Clorox Disinfectant Wipes.
MASKS: Our Staff will be wearing a mask during the entire service and at all times.
FLOORS: The floors are steam cleaned, spray cleaned with VitalOxide, and then for 2 hours are Ozone cleaned (O3 – Commercial Air Purifier). For any day we are open, we perform this process after the last appointment.
HAND SANITIZER: Hand Sanitizer is available at all times. We have several bottles in various locations, including the front desk, treatment rooms, and the checkout desk.
Can someone go into the treatment room with me?
Under further notice, during Covid, no visitors are permitted for anyone 18 years or older. If the client is 17 years of age or young, then a parent or guardian is still required.
Under normal conditions, in order to provide the best experience possible, I prefer only the client and myself in the treatment room during the appointment. For clients under the age of 18, I prefer the guardian to be in the room. However, if the client prefers or requests a friend or significant other to be in the room with them for emotional support I’m ok with it but the other person leaves and enters the room when I do and the person stays seated and does not interfere with the service.
Pre-Waxing Questions - What do I need to know?
Q: How Should I prepare for my wax?
A: To ensure the most optimal waxing experience, you must prepare for a wax! We recommend exfoliating the area several days prior to your appointment. Thoroughly clean the area and make sure to moisturize while avoiding greasy and heavy lotions or oils. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid friction immediately after wax.
Q: How long does Hair have to be to get waxed?
A: Hair needs to be at least ¼” to ½” for effective waxing. For most people this means waiting a minimum of 2 weeks of growth from the last time you shaved. The longer you wait, the better the results.
Q: Can I get waxed on my period?
A: Yes you can absolutely get waxed on your period. You’ll need to wear a tampon during your service, but otherwise it will be business as usual. Keep in mind you will be more sensitive.
Q: Can I get waxed if I’m pregnant?
A: Absolutely unless your doctor states otherwise. We can wax during your entire pregnancy up to your due date and I’ll do everything to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your service. Keep in mind some areas may be harder to access and you may experience more skin sensitivity due to the hormonal changes your body is going through.
Q: Can I tan before a Wax?
A: In order to ensure the most comfortable wax experience, we recommend that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours before and after your wax.
Q: Can I get waxed if I have Sunburn?
A: We will not perform services on sunburned skin or skin that is irritated or unhealthy.
Q: Any other things I should consider prior to waxing?
A: Women may want to think about scheduling their “down there” appointments during the first two weeks of their cycle as it will help decrease sensitivity. Avoid drinking a big cup of coffee before your next service as caffeine can increase your sensitivity levels!
During the Waxing Service Questions - What do I need to know?
Q: Do I have to be nude?
A: It depends on the service. For most services No. For Brazilian and Bikini waxes Yes; but you will only need to undress from the waist down. For the full body services Yes, it will make the service go faster as we don’t have to stop to undress and redress the areas.
Upon request I can provide draping in the room but normally after the 2nd visit nobody requests a drape. Except for the full body clients, I will drape whatever part I am not currently working on.
Q: What kind of waxing can I have done?
A: We remove hair from the neck down on males or females. If you grow it, we will take it.
Q: What kind of products do you use?
A: First, we will cleanse the area to remove any makeup, oils, or lotions that may reduce the quality of your wax from taking place. Next, we want to protect the skin so we will either use a pre-wax oil or baby cornstarch powder. Then it’s time for the wax. Finally, we will rejuvenate the area by applying a post-wax oil, lotion, or aloe depends on the skin and area. Heat and humidity play an important role with your service, so we will use what we feel will work best with your skin.
Q: Is Brazilian Waxing painful?
A: We’re removing hair from the roots; it doesn’t tickle but the pain leaves as fast as it came. We will utilize all the tricks in our bag to make it more tolerable, but yes, there is a small amount of pain in waxing. But you know what they say, beauty is pain. Keep in mind that the first time is the worse but when you get on the waxing lifestyle it will get easier and easier each time. Most clients feel less discomfort after two or three sessions.
Q: What is the difference between a Brazilian and Bikini?
A: Brazilian goes from the front, all the way to the back with an added butt strip. This is perfect for a completely nude look or you can leave a neat triangle or landing strip on the front.
Bikini is a basic tidy; we wax the sides (called your panty line) and across the top. If you’re wearing a bikini, this will prevent any hairs from “peeking out”
Q: What Should I wear to get a bikini wax?
A: We recommend loose cotton underwear. We have you remove your underclothes before the service even for bikinis. We just don’t want to take any chance of getting the cleanser, wax, post care on your underwear.
Q: Can you make special designs?
A: No, we’re not very artistic, so we can do a landing strip, a triangle, or take it all. No Hearts, No Bats, No Martini glasses etc…
Q: What position will I be in for a Brazilian service?
A: We have clients in butterfly position. You will bring your bottom of your feet together and allow your knees to fall all the way open and pull your feet a little closer to your groin area this will make a soft diamond shape. If this position is uncomfortable for you, let me know and we can adjust.
Q: What is the position that we use for the backside of the Brazilian?
A: There are various different positions to be used, we generally have you roll onto your side and have you lift your butt cheek. This is the most modest position available. The best position is to have you on your hands and knees but at the same time it can be very embarrassing and vulnerable for clients.
Q: I have a 70’s style growth going on, should I trim?
A: We prefer if you let us trim, we have guards that we place on our trimmers, so this way we can still be able to wax you. We have had clients trim beforehand and they trim the hair too short and we are unable to remove the hair because the hair is too short. Just leave the trimming to us and know that you will be in good hands.
Q: Do men really get waxed?
A: Absolutely! According to the majority of my male clientele, their significant other introduced them into waxing.
Q: What happens if I get aroused or experience an erection during my service?
A: First off, we are licensed professionals and we are sure you will be more embarrassed than us. It does happen to some males, this is usually an adrenal response it’s really not a problem. There is no need to stress about it as we won’t acknowledge it. As long as you treat us with respect and understanding that we are professional estheticians who are just removing hair and nothing more, than we are fine to continue with the service….But if any inappropriate/sexual remarks, gestures or advances are made your service will be terminated, you will be asked to leave, and we will fire you as a client. We run a strictly professional business and we will not tolerate any funny business on your part. We will also charge you for the whole service even if we terminate it due to inappropriate behavior.
Q: I’m a transgender, Can I still receive services?
A: Yes you can, we work on male and female body parts regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. However, the biological anatomy of your service is needed in order to properly schedule your services. For example, a male Brazilian takes 45 minutes, whereas a female Brazilian takes 30 minutes.
Q: Why is a male Brazilian wax more expensive than female?
A: A male Brazilian wax takes longer to complete and utilizes more supplies than a female. So you are paying for the time and supplies.
Post-Waxing Questions - What do I need to know?
Q: How do I prevent ingrown hairs?
A: Avoiding ingrown hairs is easy, if you make sure to exfoliate 2-3 times per week. If you have sensitive skin, exfoliate once per week. Most important step is to stay hydrated and use a gentle non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores) moisturizer or oil.
Q: What should I do for aftercare?
A: Your skin may be sensitive following your wax. Any red bumps or irritation should subside within a few hours. Make sure to wear loose comfortable clothing, avoid sun exposure, tanning, hot baths, hot tubs, avoid swimming or exercise, heavy lotions, and exfoliation for 48 hours after your service. Apply Aloe, witch-hazel and tea tree, or unscented moisturizer, if itchy.
Q: How long Does a wax last?
A: Everyone is different and we all are in different hair growth cycles. The beauty of waxing is knowing that you’ll be hair-free typically for a minimum of 2 weeks following your wax appointment. It takes about 3-4 consistent waxes to get hair on the same growth cycle which typically results in a longer period of smoothness. Keep in mind that everyone’s rate of regrowth is different so results will vary between clients.
Q: How soon after my wax can I enjoy intimacy?
A: We recommend waiting 24 hours. The reason behind this is because you will have some tenderness down there along with the fact that your hair follicles will be open and until they close you will be more susceptible to ingrown hairs by getting sweat and other bodily fluids into an open hair follicle.
Q: How long will my skin be irritated or what if I break out?
A: Typically most irritation subsides within 24-48 hours. Breakouts can occur if the skin is not kept clean and dry following your wax appointment. To ensure the least risk of breakout, I recommend not applying any lotions, powder, or perfumes to the area, taking mild showers, and wearing loose clothing for a minimum of 24 hours. If irritation persists, you may apply PURE aloe gel (Alcohol free) or a 1% hydrocortisone cream.
Waxing Aftercare Questions - What do I need to know?
Thank you for choosing Anchors Aweigh for your waxing needs. Please follow the guidelines below to ensure your skin is properly cared for over the next few days.
Please note: some slight soreness, small white bumps and redness are common, temporary reactions, especially if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24-48 hours. However, if you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at (726) 888-0312. Keep the waxed area clean, cool and dry for the next 24-48 hours!
THIS MEANS FOR THE NEXT 24-48 HOURS:

To prevent ingrown hairs:
- Exfoliate 24 hours prior to your service and continue three days after your wax and then once a week. Use an exfoliating wash rag, exfoliating glove, or a dry brush. Apply unscented moisturizer after showering.
- To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks. Your hair should be at least ½ inch long. You may notice a small amount of hair regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on the same growth cycle. Please do not shave or trim in-between waxes.
Does Waxing hurt?
Everyone has a different scale for pain tolerance and what is painful for someone may not bother someone else. However, at Anchors Aweigh, both our wax and technique work together to offer you the most comfortable service possible. If you’re still worried about managing sensitivity, some clients tell us that an ibuprofen or aspirin roughly 30 minutes before your appointment helps maximize your comfort. We personally don’t recommend this, and our recommendation is to get on the waxing lifestyle, because frequency will help with sensitive as hair grows back finer and sparser.
I have had a bad waxing experience in the past, will it be the same?
We have worked on a few people that stated to us that they wish we would have done their first experience. A skilled waxing professional with good technique and experience makes a huge difference. We strive to make sure you are comfortable before we even start. We will explain everything that we will do throughout the service before we even start. If you have any questions we will answer everything to help put you at ease. Plus, we have stress balls that we give first time clients to help them focus on something else. One client told us that our experience and confidence shows through our work.
Why should I Wax (instead of Shaving, Electrolysis, or Laser)?
When waxed consistently, hair grows back slower, finer and sparser. Shaving cuts your hair, it doesn’t remove your hair—so the quantity and thickness remain the same. Electrolysis and laser hair removal doesn’t work for everyone, which makes waxing a fabulous universal alternative.
How often should I get Waxed?
For the best results I recommend coming in every 4-5 weeks, never going past 6 weeks. This allows hair to get on the same growth cycle & ensures hair is an appropriate length. It is also less painful if you keep up with it and it hurts less each time.
How long can I expect my wax to last?
Everyone is different and we all are in different hair growth cycles.
Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
Your hair won’t grow back thicker and darker after waxing, it’s just the opposite! Hair that is removed at the root grows back softer and finer over time. Waxing surround the hair and removes the shaft and the root. It takes much more time for a new hair to take the place of the old one, and the time between waxes gets continually longer. When the new hair eventually grows in, it is softer and finer and not stubbly. We have had clients actually say that they weren’t sure if they should come in because not all the hair has grown back.
Can I get Waxed if I’m taking Retin A, Renova, or Accutane?
These medications increase your skin’s integrity so waxing could potentially remove skin as well as hair. Please let your esthetician know immediately if you’re on any medications and if applied tropically the area being applied. Also be aware that chemical peels, laser and microdermabrasion can also affect skin integrity.
OTHER MEDICATIONS: There are many medications that affect skin and skin integrity (glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, antibiotics, hormonal medications, and radiation and or chemotherapy drugs). Please consult with your physician in regards to any medications and how it may affect your waxing experiences. Some brand names to be aware of: Adapalene, Avita, Tazorac Avage, Proactive, Differin, Strivectin. These are just a few there are more out there, but if you have questions, please ask us.
Is there an age limit for getting waxed?
There is not a waxing age limit or waxing age requirement. However, if you’re under the age of 18, bring a parent or guardian on your visit as we need their consent.
What is the best way to book an appointment?
For everybody’s convenience all appointments are booked online only. Our online booking site is available 24/7 and lists all availability and services offered.
Do you offer Refunds?
Fast answer is NO all services are final; but we do offer a touch up on the originally serviced area. Meaning if I fail to remove all unwanted hair, we will gladly touch up the area at no charge within 5 calendar days of your service.
